November 16th - twelve weeks old - We sent Parsley home last night. Her family bought her some crinkle balls after reading that she tried to steal Thyme & Rosemary's out of their carrier. It was a great enticement for her to climb into her own carrier. After she left Sage ran around and called for her. I put a fur mouse on the wand and played with her until she was tired. This morning She called for her sister again and looked for her, then accepted she is no longer here. She and momma wrestled and played together. Its interesting how they accept change so quickly when they are little. Its becomes much more difficult when they are older. We expect Sage to go home this weekend so I'm going to close the diary with today's entry and final photos. We are going to miss these kittens each one is so sweet and special. We know they have all gone to Siamese trained owners and will be well loved. |

November 12th - Sage and Parsley are doing well
without their siblings. At first Parsley was a bit scared of the change
but she adjusted. Today she figured out she can jump up on the chairs to
get up on the tables and island. I'm spending my day telling her no and
setting her down on the floor, lol. Yesterday Sage seemed like she was
going to be the leader of the two but today Parsley's new level of
exploration has her leading Sage.
Denise let us know that Rosemary (Latte) and Thyme (Mocha) adjusted fine with their move. She reports they are very affectionate and loving. They snuggled up in bed their first night and didn't miss momma at all.. |

November 10th - Rosemary and Thyme's family came to pick them up this morning. The kittens were at the window watching for them, lol. They loved their travel carrier, even Sage and Parsley liked it. Parsley went inside and picked up a crinkle ball and ran off to hide it under my desk. Thyme found a fur ball he played with then one of the seals pick it up and ran off with it too, lol. Rosemary gave me a few last kisses and off they went to their new home. |

|
November 7th - The kittens are doing very well post surgery. All their incisions look great. Parsley has a little bit of a bump where her muscle wall sutures are. This is a pretty common reaction on kittens that come home too active. This swelling will resolve itself with healing time. We are watching it to make sure the sutures hold. I went and got a hair cut today and when I got home all the kittens were very curious and wanted to smell my hair. Thyme was very skeptical of me. I don't think he liked that I didn't smell like me, lol. |

November 2nd - ten weeks old - All the kittens are
starting to talk to me with little meows. They are showing signs of
wanting to bond. I see this most in Parsley and Rosemary right now.
Parsley is spending lots of time sitting with me at my desk and watching
my face closely. She likes to watch me when I talk to her almost like
she is learning what I am saying, lol. Rosemary will do this too but she
likes to get her two cents into the conversation.
Parsley was so sweet yesterday. I came into my desk after nap time and she stayed with me, crawling onto my lap. She purred and rubbed against me, walking in circles on my lap. Then she went up my right arm onto my shoulder. She rubbed her muzzle all around my neck then came down my left arm onto my lap again. So sweet to be so loved on....or was she just trying to find the new baked cookies I smell of? This could be the beginning of a Christmas cookie baking elf. I've noticed over the past couple weeks that Sage has become more of a momma's girl. When Fenya was walking through the house calling, Sage would run to her and sashay beside her meowing back to her. It is really cute the way she struts just like momma, like Fen's mini me or shadow. There is something about Sage I really like. She is composed and elegant. An Audrey Hepburn sort of presence. She doesn't seem to have the same frenetic way about her the other kittens have. She doesn't seem to be as easily spooked anymore. Today a service man came to the door and I invited him into the entry hall. Sage sat on the rug in the living room in full view. She didn't run for cover like she used to. Whenever I come in a greet Rosemary whether its in the morning or after nap time she always waits to talk to me and give me a kiss before she runs off to play. I've made a video clip of her giving me kisses that I will add tomorrow. Thyme is so funny when I try to kiss him like his sister he leans his head away from me like I have girl cooties, lol, but he is still first kitten into my lap and competes with the other kittens for "his" space. |

October 31st - Happy Halloween - Lots of tricks here today. Everyone got puffed up, even momma, when Rose found a post it note upstairs and went flying through the house with her treasure. lol. After the big storm I thought about Dorthy, Scarecrow, Tinman, and Lion for Halloween costumes but then I realized they already have masks on (oh my). They are all dressed as witches familiars and they have many magical powers that effect the heart. Although the standard chant is trick or treat their favored one is... |

October 30th - The kittens surgery that was scheduled for Monday was rescheduled to next Monday because of the hurricane. We faired really well through the storm. We never lost power but the town next to us is blacked out and they are saying it will be out all week. We were very lucky. I've started to give the kittens little pieces of treats to help them learn how to accept treats without biting fingers. I know there are some children who will love giving treats to Parsley and I want her to learn the difference between food and fingers. Rosemary is the one having the hardest time with this lesson. When they all get treats they get competitive and sort of go into a feeding frenzy, lol. Thyme and Parsley have turned into little kitchen vacuums. I have found them trolling the floor for crumbs several times now. We put the mylar sparkler onto the wand for some very excited play time. It sounds more like rain and helped the kittens to be comfortable during the storm. |

October 27th - This video clip is of a kitten
nursing. They don't get any milk. There hasn't been any for a couple of
weeks now but they all nurse as part of their emotional development.
This is why they don't go home at 8 or 9 weeks of age. They still need
momma a little bit. Fenya has just entered her second estrus since
giving birth.

October 23rd - Today the kittens went for
their first Vet exam and vaccinations. They traveled quietly in the car.
Robin the Vet tech laughed at how close they all are in weight and Dr.
Schaefer said they are such nice big kittens. All the kittens
passed their exams and got the strong and healthy approval. They were
all quite when they got the shots. The only complaint came when I put
Rosemary back in the carrier, she wanted to stay out and visit, lol.
Both she and Thyme kept standing up an peeping out of the carrier after
they were done. Robin kept pointing and saying, "Look, look",
lol. Dr. Manley got a hold of Parsley and kept her until we were ready
to leave. She said she needed to hold a kitten, lol. They have
been resting today as their bodies make antibodies from their
vaccinations.

October 21st - The kittens have figured out how to
get up onto my desk on their own. They have taken over the top, lol. I
had to clean my desk off or they push all the papers off onto the floor.
That's okay by me most of my desk is usually covered by cat beds anyway.
:) We may have to start calling Parsley Amelia, she has started leaping
off high perches. She thinks she can fly. Sage has picked my
daughter as her special person...and
I think its mutual, lol. My daughter was telling me today about what a sweet kitty Sage is and what
a good model she is. She swears Sage knows and understands what a camera
is. She said every time Sage saw the camera she would stop moving and
pose. lol Here are a few of her photos of Sage.

October 20th - Parsley's owner came to visit today and brought her daughter and grand daughters with her. This was the first visit the kittens have had with children. Parsley wasn't so sure about them at first but the girls were so good that she came around and played. Sage was asleep behind the sofa, Rosemary and Thyme played too until Thyme left to join Sage in a nap, then Rosemary too left. Parsley stayed the whole visit and I think she is very happy with her new family. She loves to play and grandchildren will be great friends for her.

|
October 19th - eight weeks old - My husband was gone this week and just got home. He said he can see how much the kittens have grown. I wondered if they were in a growth period as they have been sleeping for longer stretches of time. |
Parsley Parsley has found a spot on the sofa she likes to sit on by herself. She is content and falls asleep there. Unexpected noises still spook her. I suspect she will always have a quick startle reaction. She loves to have her head rubbed and will rub her face herself on surfaces to make them her own, lol She also loves playing with Da Bird and just about anything that moves. |

Sage Sage is a daredevil. I think it is because she doesn't want to take the time to figure out the best way to do something. She just wants to do it NOW, lol. This morning she jumped from the 4th stair up through the rails. Not a high jump she makes a jump of similar height from the cat tree. This morning her jump when awry and she smacked her nose into the carpet hard enough to make both her eyes water. Poor baby she went running and shaking her head. I scooped her up and wiped her eyes and gave her kisses. She recovered quickly. :) She also climbs down from the top perch head first, lol. Last night she climbed into my lap and kept looking up at me. Those soulful Siamese eyes reaching into my heart. She is sweet and unique. |

|
Rosemary
Rosemary is a lap snuggler and has started giving me kisses, lol, her rough tongue is tough on the lips. She is a good match to Thyme as they have the same activity level and enjoy wrestling together. They often race through the house and end rolling into a wrestling match. This week she is the gentler of the two. I suspect they will continue to switch back and forth on who is the leader. She has some very unique coloring in her eyes right now. I've been using it to tell if a photo is her or her brother, lol. She also falls asleep in my hand on my shoulder, too sweet. |
Rosemary 8 weeks of age |
As the kittens eyes develop it is normal to see changes occuring in the color in their eyes. The uniqueness in Rosemary's is how distinct the wide circle of dark blue contrasts with the lighter blue center. |
This lap is Mine, Mine, all Mine, ahahahahaha |
|
Thyme
Thyme is Rosemary's matching bookend, lol. They are always together. This week he is being a bit of a bully making everyone cry out when he bites too hard. I'm working with him as are his siblings to teach him not to bite so hard. Even momma is working with him, holding him and biting him back, lol. He's really pretty gentle with me but I think he's getting lost in his enthusiasm when playing with his siblings. He is still the first to crawl into my lap. Definitely a people cat. |

October 13th -14th - This weekend Thyme and
Rosemary had a nice visit with their family. The kittens do so may sweet
and wonderful things I wish I had photos of those moments to share. When
I have the camera of course they don't want to cooperate, lol. They are
just too busy playing. Sunday I found the three seals asleep in the
ottoman bed with momma and when I went looking for Parsley I found her
asleep in a nest with Magi. Fenya has cycled into estrus and is calling
but the kittens don't even seem to notice her calls.

October 12th - seven weeks old - Another rainy dreary day good for napping, growing, and running around like a wild child, lol. Even Momma Fenya was getting fed up with all the action. She was grabbing kittens and putting them in time out by holding a back leg in her mouth, lol, and it works. She is teaching them not to go too crazy with playtime. Even with them bouncing all over the room they are playing nicely with the house and our furnishings. They are good kittens full of kitten energy. :) Unfortunately dreary days make for poor photos. I'm really sorry for the washed out quality of the eye color. We will work on getting some sunny faced birthday shot for truer color.

October 11th - We had a visit from a Siamese
breeder today. She picked out Sage to be a new queen in her cattery. We
are working with her to bring a new line into our breeding program in
the near future. I had her take a look at Parsley and tell me what color
she felt Parsley was. She confirmed what I've been thinking. Parsley is
turning chocolate. Each week her nose fur has gotten a little richer in
color. I think she has passed the point of being lilac. Parsley is a
slow to develop chocolate point.

I tried to get some photos of the kittens playing in the sun this morning but all I got was a lot of photos that look like this... ...they are in super fast play mode, lol. |

October 10th - This morning I turned on the big screen TV and placed Sage on my lap for some lovin'. She sat up tall and watched the TV, lol. The video below features Parsley, Sage and Rosemary. My daughter was playing with Da Bird when Parsley chirruped at it. So cute. She kept teasing them trying to get them to do it again. They were too smart to fall for her baiting, lol. |

October 5th - six week old - &
6th - Last night Sage found the fur thing toy and also found her inner
lion. She had it in her mouth and started growling. This totally freaked
out her siblings who ran for the cover of the sofa. Their running
freaked her out and she ran after them, lol She came back out with her
catch and thoroughly enjoyed her new found "power of the
growl". Rosemary now sees her with more respect and approaches her
less aggressively. It made such a different in Sage's body
language. At one point, no longer with the fur thing, she was strutting around
the room with her tail held high, very proud and strong. She is still
the first to flee if something unexpected happens but she has much more
confidence....and Rosemary has a little less, which is a good thing she
was becoming quite the beast, lol. Their weights are nice and consistent. Nobody
really stands out as larger or smaller. I feel I can tell them apart in
person and when I take photos I think I will know who is who but then I
see the photos and its all gone, lol. In person my brain must be able to
pick out the subtle differences but in photos those differences are not
as apparent.
They are a beautiful litter. We are starting to see their bodies growing
to match the size of their heads, becoming more elegantly
balanced. They are losing the bobble headed toddler look. I especially noticed
the elegance of Parsley and Sage last night. Parsley is now hauling toys
too. That means everyone can hoard their secret stash now, lol
This morning someone had tracked soil into the hall and I swept it into a little pile to the side of the door. When the kittens came out of my office to play Parsley tried to eat it when she walked past, lol. Rosemary came happily prancing along and stepped right into it. The look on her face was priceless. She has never encountered the deadly dirt pile before. She picked up her paw and immediately puffed up. She very gingerly began walking backwards back into the office, turned and ran to the cat tree. Poor dear, she recovered but I hugged her anyway and brought her out to play in the living room. bi-weekly weigh in...... Parsley is 1 lb. 15.25 ounces = 890 grams - up 75 grams Sage is 1 lb. 14.4 ounces = 865 grams - up 57 grams Rosemary is 1 lb. 13.75 ounces = 847 grams - up 78 grams Thyme is 1 lb. 15.75 ounces = 904 grams - up 64 grams |

|
October 4th - I'm having a fun time learning about
these kittens. I normally start playing with moving toys by keeping them
on the floor and dragging them. Its less intimidating to inexperienced
babies. Sage was uncomfortable with this technique. Her favorite toy is
a fur mouse. She picks them up and plays with them, carries them
by their tails, lol. I discovered last night that she loves feather toys
in the air. She was captivated when I wagged the feather wand above her
head. She jumped up to grab it. She is gaining confidence daily and now
that I know what she likes I'm sure she will move past that discomfort
of ground floor moving toys. Her behavior still reflects that she is
lowest kitten in the dominance order. She is trying to challenge herself
and the other kittens but she is just not as aggressive as the leading
kittens. I believe when she gets out from under Rosemary's influence she
will come into her own.
Here is a video of her playing and Rosemary joins her. You can see Sage is taken aback then she sneaks up from behind to attack Rosemary in play, lol. Her confidence is growning. Also a second video of the seals playing. Parsley was sleeping. Click the logo to watch our video on youtube or go to our youtube channel |

I'm having a hard time telling Rosemary from Thyme. Usually the kitten being the most crazy, zooming at high speed, making quick turns, and hauling toys, means its Rosemary. She has turned into a toy hog. Thyme is more of a gentleman. He was the first kitten to pick up the feather wand and run off with it. Once Rosemary saw this she decided all the feather toys were hers, lol. The first time she ran off with one she growled the whole time it was in her mouth. She ran behind the sofa with it. The growling freaked all the kittens out. They ran to her. The closer they got the more she growled, and the more she growled the closer they wanted to get to see what was up. lol. I had to get out a loose bird just for her so we could actually play with Da Bird. She has started crawling up into my lap much to Thyme's dismay. She may surpass him yet as leader of the pack.
The kittens love to under, run between, and behind the sofa sections. Momma gets some licks in as Parsley pops out. |

October 1st - The kittens spent the weekend
playing hide and seek and learning to climb the cat tree they found in
the living room. They no longer listen to their momma, lol. She calls
them to come out to play, then calls them to come back to eat, use the
litter box and nap. They don't run to her anymore, poor Momma Fenya. I
help her by picking them up and bringing them back for her. We were
watching Fenya closely this weekend. On Saturday morning I noticed she
was licking herself and she seemed disturbed by her circumstance.
Keva was famous for dripping milk all over the house when her kittens
started weaning so I though maybe this was what was distressing
her. I checked Fen's tummy and she had a very engorged mammary
gland. It was warm and she was irritating it by licking it. All
the others were empty. If they were not eating enough we would
expect to see the same level of extra milk across all the glands being
used. I watched the kittens to see if they were nursing on it. They kept
picking the empty nipples. I was beginning to worry about possible mastitis
(infection). Was she not allowing them to nurse on it? I then saw
Rosemary try to nurse. She would suck three times then pop off looking
dissatisfied and try again. After three or four attempts she gave up and
switched nipples. I began using warm compresses on it to help with
the engorgement. Its possible it became clogged. Happily Sunday
afternoon it was back to normal. Birthday photos and a couple of videos
from the weekend.

September 30th - Momma Fenya's mask is showing speckles from the birth. Siamese point color is temperature sensitive so when her core temp went up during delivery her developing hairs received lighter pigment. They have now gown to where we can see it. September 28th - five weeks old - Today was
a dark and rainy day so I didn't even try for nice birthday photos. I'll
try to get some this weekend.
I opened the doors last night and allowed the kittens to check out the front hall. They were not timid about it just curious about all the new scents. They sniffed each new item they walked up to really well. Parsley rubbed her face on edges to make them smell like she does, lol. Rosemary tried to jump up the first step but tumbled back. Thyme gave it a try too and couldn't make it. He moved on to the living room. He's not the least bit afraid. Rose went behind the door and kept playing through the crack with Parsley. I tried to get a photo of her with her face smashed into the crack and legs reaching through as far as she could but she was just too fast for me. Sage was interested but didn't really want to come out. It seems that as Parsley found her courage Sage lost some of hers, lol. We are working with her to help her gain that bit of confidence back. We played for a short time then went back to go to bed.
This morning I opened the doors again and allowed them to explore on their own. They all ran into the living room and when Sage didn't come too momma Fenya scruffed her and carried her into the living room. The kittens didn't hide right away like most litters do, sniffed and played. They like going under and between the sofa checking things out. Magi has been sleeping in the kitten corner behind the sofa but nobody seemed to care. When they were all tuckered out Fenya laid down with them behind the ottoman to nurse. I'm hoping as the kittens became more independent Keva will forgive Fen and come play too, she's not ready yet. We will keep working on it. While the kittens were napping with Fen in the living room I deep cleaned my office/kitten room, All new rugs and bedding, closed up the corner cabinet, and steam cleaned the floor. They are all doing so well with using the regular litter box that I removed the training litter box. |

September 27th - Everyone is starting to get pretty rambunctious in here, momma worst of all, lol. We are going to start allowing the kittens to explore a bit outside the kitten room so they can begin to become comfortable with the house. Short excursions of play time to make sure they know to come back and reinforce their litter box use. Their habits have been exceptional and we want to keep at that level. :) |
|
September 24th - The kitten had their nails trimmed today. Everyone was very good. I have seen them all leave deposits in the litter box. Now all they need some experience with how to complete the task and exit without getting messy feet, lol. They are doing very well with eating. Their weight gains are good. They are all so sweet and snuggly. I'm having trouble telling who is who when they crawl up into my lap. I will think it is one then look for the color mark and discover I am wrong, lol.

September 24th - The kittens spent the weekend learning to scratch and climb on appropriate surfaces. We have full length drapes so we can teach our kittens proper kitten manners. They lean never to climb the claw or curtains before they leave us. We do allow them to play around them and hide behind them though. They are great places to pounce out and get a sibling from, lol. This morning I found someone left a baby solid deposit in the litter box. So far we have had no accidents with litter box use and the kittens all are using the box, yeah. Its interesting to watch Parsley. She seems to operate on a differ wavelength then the seals. All the seals are very similar in how they react and interact with new toys. They are skeptical of toys that move but Parsley is totally enticed. She didn't even think when I tapped my nails on the floor and made a spider with my hand. She ran right after my had and chased it. When I rattle a mouse and drag it across the floor the seals all go wide eyed and stare, Parsley springs forward to go after it. The seals are happy to go after toys once they learn they won't get attacked, lol. |

September 21st - four weeks old -
The kittens are running about and playing. They are beginning to tentatively
climb. Today I saw Parsley pop up into the air while she was zooming
about, lol. She also went into the litter box and left her first wet
mark all on her own. Tonight Rosemary was yelling and when I placed her
into the litter box she also left her mark. She knew she had to go but
wasn't sure what to do so she yelled for help, lol. Yesterday Rose had
baby cat kibble for a snack. Anytime the kittens hear me, even if they
are sleep, they came running toward me calling out.

September 19th - This morning Thyme decided
to have baby cat kibble for breakfast and he tucked in and ate a big
meal. Rosemary licked a few pieces from the towel under the bowl. Sage
ran over and planted her foot into the water bowl. She was shocked and
not happy to stay anywhere near the bowls, lol. Below is a series of
photos of the seals who played on my lap while Parsley slept.

September 18th - Last night after my diary entry
Sage decided to try out the Baby cat kibble and had a small meal. She
returned twice to nibble a bit more. Each time she ate she had to spend
twice as much time cleaning her face, lol. I wanted to
weight Rosemary just to see if she made the 1 pound mark, she did, but
while weighing her I realized I'm going to be weighting on Tuesday
and Fridays. Today being Tuesday I decided to start off right and weigh
everyone today. So today is our last daily weigh in, lol.
Afternoon weigh in...... Parsley is 1lb. 1 ounces = 484 grams - up 25 grams Sage is 1 lb. 1.6 ounces = 502 grams - up 7.1 grams Rosemary is 1 lb. 0 ounces = 455.5 grams - up 10.7 grams Thyme is 1 lb. 2.5 ounces = 526.7 grams - up 14.2 grams About half of the time I see this. September 17th - The kittens are driving momma
Fenya crazy today, lol. They are out of the cabinet and in the cabinet.
When two are out and two are in they sit and yell to each other. Its
this yelling that is making Momma bonkers. She thinks they are in
distress. Poor dear she is running back and forth grabbing them and
licking them and trying to get them all together. It's not working out
her way. She will need to adjust to this new toddler phase. Here are a
few photos of this mornings play session followed by the crash for a noon
time nap. I've removed the towel ramps, they kept wanting to lick them, and
rearranged a little for better play flow. They are doing a lot of play
fighting and biting. This is a very important phase that teaches them to
be gentle and not bite hard. The kittens have also begun playing with
toys. Today Parsley is zooming about and Rosemary is playing the shy
girl. I brought in the vacuum today for the first time since they were
born. Fen doesn't like the vacuum so she hid under the cat tree. The
kittens were all in the cabinet nest with the doors partially closed.
They were concerned about this new noise but did very well. They called
out to Momma and she ran into the nest with them. I had to turn off the
vacuum and turn it on again. When I restarted it Thyme and Sage came
running out of the cabinet yelling to me, lol. Maybe they were saying to
turn it of already? They did not seem scared of it at all. The kittens
have reached 1 pound, except Rosemary but she is close enough, so we
will begin bi-weekly weighing. As they begin to be more active and start
eating kibble their weight will fluctuate quite a bit. Bi-weekly weights
gives us a better read on how well they are doing. Their training food
and water bowls are waiting for them to investigate them and the
training litter box is also set up for them to find as they explore
further away from the nest.
Thyme - Can I come up? Sage playing with the ball Sage cautiously crawling onto the wave scratcher for the first time. Help, Momma's gettin' me. That is Parsley on top getting hug bit. She is giving it back too. Momma stuck her head in here while a kitten was inside and stayed like this for about 5 minuets. The kitten is on her left trying to squeeze out. She never did get out until momma withdrew. Parsley playing with the mouse

September 16th - This morning when I came in to
see the babies all of them, even Parsley, came pouring out of the nest calling good
morning. They crawled all around me and on my lap. Of course this morning
was the one morning I didn't have the video camera ready. Every other morning
that I've had the camera recording they sit in the nest and stare at me
like I'm cuckoo, roflol. I have lots of little clips of them just
looking at me while I talk baby cat to them. Now that they are running out we have put up
the run fence to keep them safe and control how far they can wander
until they are litter trained.
Afternoon weigh in...... Parsley is 15.9 ounces = 452 grams - up 3.5 grams Sage is 1 lb. .1 ounces = 487.5 grams - up 14.2 grams Rosemary is 15 ounces = 427 grams - up 17.8 grams Thyme is 1 lb. 1.25 ounces = 491 grams - up 21.4 grams |

September 14th - Three weeks old - This
morning after I said hello and held all the kitten momma decided to
bring Rosemary out of the nest . The other three kittens were sleeping.
She scruffed her and placed her into the bed on the floor in front of
the cabinet. She then left her there and stretched out in the sun about
three feet away. Rose took it in stride. She sat and peeped and looked
around, lol. She was there for about five minuets then momma picked her
up and put her back into the nest. This afternoon Thyme ventured
out on his own.

September 13th - The kittens are not quite
confident enough, with their ability to walk about, to venture forth but
I'm bringing them out for a very short time to explore right in front of
the nest. They are spending quite a bit of time mouthing each other and
their paws. Their baby teeth are in.

September 10th - This morning when I came in
to see the kittens there was a visitor in the nest and nobody seemed to
mind. We brought Fenya's raccoon in on Sunday to give her a friend to
play with so she wouldn't play too rough with the babies. I took
it out of the nest and animated it and Fen attacked and bit on it
playfully....I don't think she sees it as another kitten, lol. I know it
didn't crawl into the nest itself so she must have brought it in to
share with the kittens.
That is Parsley on the left, next is Rosemary, then Sage looking at us, and Thyme is under sleeping. Afternoon weigh in...... Parsley is 12.6 ounces = 359.5 grams - up 14.2 grams Sage is 13.1 ounces = 373.7 grams - up 25 grams Rosemary is 11.75 ounces = 334.5 grams - up 7.1 grams Thyme is 13.4 ounces = 380.8 grams - up 17.8 grams |
|
September 9th - The kittens all continue to
do well. They all look at us when we visit and peep to us. Today
everyone got their nails trimmed and did very well. I only needed to
scruff Thyme and only a couple times to relax him. I put a big nest on
my lap and laid a kitten on it, then lifted each paw to trim the nails.
None of them yelled and momma Fen laid in the family nest and watched me
do each kitten. She was very relaxed. I think maybe Parsley is not quite
as mature as the other kittens. We see this frequently with the largest
kitten in the litter, although she is not the largest she looks it. She
has huge paws and a big round head. She also yells the loudest. Whenever
I handle her and return her to the nest she goes right to nursing.
At first I thought she just loved her milk but now I'm thinking nursing
makes her feel secure. Like a child with a blanket or thumb sucking. Her
siblings don't run to momma but they do start to nurse when they hear
her smacking noises, lol, they don't want to miss out. When we handle
her we are making sure she feels as secure as possible in our hands. In
the past our slowest to mature kitten has become the leader of the pack.
Will we have to see how Parsley develops.
Afternoon weigh in...... Parsley is 12.1 ounces = 345.1 grams - up 10.7 grams Sage is 12.25 ounces = 348.8 grams - up 21 grams Rosemary is 11.5 ounces = 327.4 grams - up 14.2 grams Thyme is 12.75 ounces = 363 grams - up 21 grams |

|
September 7th - two weeks old - This
morning Momma hauled a baby out of the nest and brought her outside the
cabinet. I think she is wanting to encourage exercise. The kitten
started nursing and momma started to play rough and kick her with her
back feet. I didn't like how rough this was so I put the kitten back in the
nest and brought Fenya some toys including the minky to kick. I also
rolled up some towels and placed them against the cabinet just in case a
baby needs to crawl back up.
The kittens eyes are now showing blue. Parsleys light coloring made it difficult to show the color but you can see it in the other kittens eyes. On some photos you can see the pupils do not always track together. Sometimes the kittens look wall eyed. This is because their eyes are not fully developed yet and they cannot see and coordinate their sight yet.
Afternoon weigh in...... Parsley is 11.25 ounces = 320.3 grams - up 17.8 grams Sage is 11.25 ounces = 320.3 grams - up 17.8 grams Rosemary is 10.4 ounces = 295.4 grams - up 7.1 grams Thyme is 11.5 ounces = 327 grams - up 14.2 grams

September 4th - I've been allowing the
kittens some private time so Momma will feel safe in the new nesting
area. Tonight when I opened the door to say hello They ran forward
calling out to me, sooo cute. I wish I had the video camera on. Sage was
the leader talking first and almost crawling out of the nest. He was
very excited I came to visit. Rosemary was next to him looking for her
share too. Thyme was looking eagerly forward and Parsley was snuffling
about the nest. I think Parsley was thinking food, lol As soon as Fenya
went into the nest Parsley was eagerly nursing. Rosemary left me in
favor of nursing too. Thyme came forward to see me and fill the place she
vacated. I watched as Parsley finished her nipple and moved on to
Rosemary's just in case it till had any milk left. Thyme fully
enjoyed having his head rubbed.

August 31th - one week old - Three of
the kittens eyes are fully open, Sage is still working on hers. Weight
gains are nice and consistent. I wanted
to get really clear detailed birthday photos but Momma Fen had her own

August 27th - three days old - Weight gains
couldn't be any better, no worry. Rosemary and
Thyme's eyes are starting to open. I wonder if their burrowing under the
other kittens is helping this process along. All the kittens had their
cords when I took the morning individual photos. At the afternoon weigh
in all the cords were gone...and I see none of them in the bedding? I
think Momma has helped this process along during bath time, lol. In the group photo below
you can see that Parsley is a little lighter in color. Its looking
more like three seal family and one choco? Now if I can just figure out
if they are boys or girls, lol. I've looked at all of them multiple
times to see if I could tell and I am totally unsure. o_0 The kittens
are all relaxed when being held. Its really nice to snuggle them without
their alarms going off. :)

August 26th - two days old - I've been
worried about Rosemary because she's the smallest and she always seemed
to be crying that she was hungry and fussing at empty nipples. The bigger kittens pushed her away
from her nipple so she took to burrowing under to eat. I was worried she
wasn't getting any milk with the big piggys getting to it first. Well
weights show clearly I had no reason to be worried, lol. I hope she
keeps it up. Now I can worry about Thyme who had only gained 7 grams so
I waited until after nursing and weighted again to get the recorded
weight. Fen is spotting a bit of red blood. I think she is fine but we
will be watching her to make sure nothing more develops.
Afternoon weigh in...... Parsley is 4.75 ounces = 135.2 grams - up 14.2 grams Sage is 4.5 ounces = 128.1 grams - up 14.2 grams Rosemary is 4.4 ounces = 124.6 grams - up 21.4 grams Thyme is 4.5 ounces = 128.1 grams - up 10.7 grams We're seeing a bit of color coming in. I think Rosemary is seal? Parsley looks lighter in body so maybe a chocolate or lilac? At times it looks to me like we have two choco and two seal family kittens but then they crawl about and they all look the same color again, lol. Time will tell. In the photos below you can see just a hint of color. Ear edges look shadowed. Nose leather looks a tad dirty. Rosemary's foot pads look dirty too, lol. Noses & Toeses The kittens had a short visit when the girls took a break from their AP homework

August 25th - one day old - All the kittens are nursing and doing well. They all gained weight. Fenya has turned into protective cuckoo momma. She cannot stand to see another cat in the house and has behaved this way with her past litters also. I thought this time was going to be different because Keva was in and out of the room while Fenya delivered her kittens and Fen was not concerned. Her first trip out of the kitten room to walk about last night sent her in a frenzied chase after her buddy Keva. She can't help herself, poor Keva. We will be keeping Fenya separated from the other cats until after this hormonal effect wears off.
Afternoon weigh in...... Parsley is 4.25 ounces = 121 grams - up 17.8 grams Sage is 4.0 ounces = 113.9 grams - up 14.2 grams Rosemary is 3.6 ounces = 103.2 grams - up 10.7 grams Thyme is 4.1 ounces = 117.4 grams - up 14.2 grams

August 24th - Birth Day - Fenya again pushed
it to a later gestation date. Today was 68 days. I am very grateful that
she delivered today without any problems. I bet my Vet is too, so we can
all enjoy the weekend, lol. This litter will be going home in November
so we've been considering diary names that have a autumnal
feeling. We ended up
with the herbs of a 16th century English folk song. It was made popular
in the '60's by Simon & Garfunkel. Celtic Woman has also recorded a
very pretty version of Parsley, Sage, Rosemary, & Thyme. I guess I
was imagining Thanksgiving turkey stuffing, lol.
Labor and delivery was fairly quick and uneventful. She chose the birthing box and delivered in my office/kitten room. They were very active kittens in utero. They must have been doing summersaults and turned themselves around after the kitten count x-ray. All the kittens delivered head first without much fuss and Momma Fenya cleaned them and took care of all the placentas without any help from me. Parsley has been very comfortable with my handling with so much as a peep. Sage demonstrated a very loud yell when born and Rosemary has been yelling about being pushed about by the the other kittens. None of the kittens really fussed when I held them to take photos but Momma was a bit concerned so we kept it to a quick snapshot for each kitten. Left to right - Parsley, Sage, Thyme, & Rosemary. I hope Rosemary is a girl, lol. The

August 14th - Fenya went to have her kitten count
x-ray today. It looks like she has four kittens. Two on each side. One
head down in the traditional birthing position and three rear first. In
the image below I marked the spines (zipper looking structures) and
skulls (round circles). The side panel x-ray was a jumble of bones with
all the kittens lining up in the same plane, so I'm not including it.
