Closing Stats #1Belle – is now Edith and lives in Bristol, RI. | June 1st - Mouse was picked up today and had a nice trip home. She was very vocal in her new home at first. She met her new cat family briefly and had a lot to say about that too, She is doing very well. Her owner said she is a fast learner. She slept in bed and is very happy to talk about all her new experiences, lol. " A very nice and amazingly loving kitten." |

| May 24th - Belle was pick up today. She did very well on her trip home. She was quite and shy at first but adjusted quickly to her new home and was soon in charge of all entertaining and greeting guests at the door. |

| May 23th - The girls are celebrating now that the boys have gone home, lol. Its like a pajama party all the time. They have been racing about the house calling to each other. Belle's personality is really coming out more. She is so funny. She has started climbing up into my lap on her own to snuggle. Our daughter is home for a visit and she got out the laser pointer. We don't usually use laser points but as long as they are combined with toys so the kitten has a prey to catch at the end of the chase I think limited use is okay. Belle was so funny with it. She is very fast and can turn on a dime. When she would lose track of it she would talk. It was like she was saying "Where'd it go?" At the end she pounced on a toy and carried it off in her mouth. Mouse would follow it too but she seems less fooled by it. |

| May 21th - We said good bye to the boys today. They had a nice play time with their family and checker out their carrier before they were ready to go. The girls have been running around chasing each other like crazy since the boys left. |

| May 19th - The kitten's continue to do well. Mouse has a bit more swelling. It looks like she is having a small reaction to her suture material. There is almost always one that has a reaction like this. It will resolve as the suture material dissolves but we will watch her for a few days just to make sure nothing else is going on. |

| May 18th - The kittens have done well after their surgeries. We see some very minimal swelling in the girls sutures. | |

They all sat around looking at it, then all wanted to play at the same time, lol. Gene hung in the longest playing while Rover fell asleep by my legs watching him. |

| May 17th - The kitten went in for their spay neuter surgeries today. Everything went well for them all, pre-surgical bloodwork was normal They arrived home full of energy but not too crazy. :) Rover, Gene, and Belle played fetch the sparkle ball with me. It was my way of keeping them busy so they wouldn't lick their incisions. This shows promise for future retrieval training. Sweet mouse just wanted to curl up on my lap. Every so often she would go play with a toy then come back. Mouse nad Belle's tummies look great. Tiny incisions. The boys you can't really tell they had anything done. Their incisions are even smaller. The girls have dissolving sutures to close the muscle wall and skin glue to close the skin incision. No stitches to pull out. | |

| These videos were made right after the kittens arrived home from the hospital. They demonstrate how little of an impact surgery has when it is done early. They have no idea they had surgery and they heal really fast compared to older kittens. The talking kitten is Gene. | |

| May 11th - We have had family visits with all the kittens new owners this week. I think I enjoy this part as much as the babies. We get to meet so many nice people. It feels good to know they will go home with such nice owners. Rover remains our leader. Belle seems to pair off with him the most. Belle seems to have a higher energy level than her sister. Mouse is more of an old soul with a composed way about her. I've also noticed Belle is a bit of a momma's girl. She will go to Momma and rub against her and talk to her more. If Grainne leaves the room Belle will walk along side her talking to her. Gene is happy to play second to Rover and Mouse tends to pair up as Gene's play companion. She plays as his second and is happy to let him lead. Of the four kittens Mouse seems to be the quietest with the most observational demeanor. |

| May 2nd - Today was the kittens first wellness vet visit. They each were carefully examined and passed their inspections. They received their first core vaccines. Dr. Schaefer said they are all very healthy. They were completely quiet the whole trip and during their visit. Gene was first and he stayed out to sit with Rover while he had his exam too, lol. |

| May 1st - eight weeks old - The kittens are doing great. They love practicing each new skill. They are starting to jump up after toys. Growl their fiercest growl when in possession of a feather bird or furry mouse. They found the upstairs media room and like to run up there to hang out. Belle likes Keva's favorite perch on the spfa back where she can see everyone who goes up and down the stairs. Rover keeps trying to do a "take down" on Momma, lol. She enjoys chasing him about the house in return. The kittens also had their first family visit yesterday. They did great. They loved playing with the family so much. Even when clearly tired they still wanted them to stay and play. They had a nice long afternoon nap, lol. | |

| April 24th - seven weeks old - Belle is looking more and more like she will be a small boned sleek cat, a petite princess. Rover is maturing out of his baby look and into looking like a handsome boy. Gene have a lovely balanced face, very pretty. I think he may be a little bit more sleek than Rover, finer boned. Mouse has a rounder face. She's a bit of a puff ball, lol. Sometimes the look on her face reminds me of her daddy. | |

We're going to stop weighting the kittens today. I don't feel like I'm getting accurate measures anymore as they don't sit still in my basket. The weights at this point are a sort of guess, lol. since one kitten's display will be moving through a range of weights. They could be off by a couple ounces. bi-weekly weigh in...... | April 17th - six weeks old - Momma finally gave her permission for the kittens to leave the kitten room and explore into the living room. She was cooing and coaxing them to follow her. They looked around a little and ran back to the front hall to play on the stairs. Rover was first up the stairs yesterday without a pause. He just went right up, and came right back down. Mouse discovered my lap as a favorite place to be. Rover was happy to share "his lap" with her. With her little bit more undercoat mouse has super soft fur. Undercoat is finer and softer than the silky protective top coat fur. The difference in Gen, Mouse and Bell are very subtle. with Belle having a slightly narrower face and Mouse having a slightly wider face. Gene is right in the middle. Mouses' eyes have a slight tilt to them too. It gives her a really cute expression. Finding my lap has given Mouse some confidence. Gene and Belle trade off who is the brave kitty. Thursday was a really funny night with everyone puffing up and hopping sideways at each other playing Bid Bad Kitty. | |

| April 10th - five weeks old - This week the kittens all mastered the litter box, I think. I haven't found any hidden spots, lol, and the training litter box is getting lots of use. The kittens weights this week look like they're well on their way with solid food. Belle's build and face does look slimmer like her Mother. This may be why her weight is lower. We decided to remove the run and open the door to allow for exploration. Gene was first out with Momma close behind watching over him. It wasn't too long before Rover followed. Leaving their kitten room is always a test of nerves. They have an inborn instinct for preservation, fear of the unknown. Their positive experiences are what builds their confidence to allow that to settle into the background and be more of an emergency fight or flight response. Lots of smells they don't know in the front hall. Gene was doing well until he walked over to the throw rug at the front door. There he smelled something that made him puff up. That followed a hasty retreat back into the room. It wasn't too long before Rover ran after him. Since then no one has showed any interest in leaving the room again. We allow them time with the doors open but also close them so they can feel safe and relaxed. Its a bit early for exploring. I expect in the next week or so we will see a rising confidence level. Rover has the most confidence right now, Gene and Belle are pretty similar. Mouse is struggling with her confidence building. We will work with her to see if we can help her.It may be that she is just not quite as mature yet. |

| April 6th - I've been trying to get some better photos of the kittens. Big photo update today placed alphabetically. The kittens are taking to eating bits of kibble. I've seen Rover and Belle eating. We are working on introducing the litter box and learning litter is not food, lol. The kittens are exploring upwards now. They have mastered climbing up the litter condo to look out the window. Gene successfully crawled up the first level of the cat tree the hard way. I've also seen Rover up on this level. We held scratch school and demonstrated how great the scratching post is and how its an easier climb up tool. They all love playing with toys. We will begin introducing moving toys this coming week. |

| March 31th - The kittens are doing great. They all have such beautiful faces. They're out and about playing. We tried to reintroduce Fenya last night but Grainne just growled under her breath so Fen is out for now. I want Grainne to relax so I haven't even taken any photos. I'll try to get some tomorrow. The kittens are so cute. Big upward faces full of awe. Everything is new and amazing to them,. They love staring into our eyes. |

Given the nervous emotional state of Momma, I'm worried about a possible decrease in milk production. That combined with much more active kittens burning off calories tends to make this phase of development had to predict. We expanded the run added the training litter boxes and will be introducing the kittens to dry baby cat kibble and water.. I hope to see better gains tomorrow. |

| March 27th - three weeks old - Momma Grainne had her fill of Grandma getting on her nerves. The final staw was when the kittens decide to go out and explore on their own. This made Momma very nervous and she banished Fenya, for now. Do to momma's nerves we had a very quiet birthday today. |

| March 24th - The kittens are getting much
stronger now. Exercising their legs crawling about inside the birthing
box. Momma Grainne has not felt the need to move them yet. Last
Sunday we set up the nests in the corner cabinet just in case. Grandma
Fenya on the other hand has had some plans of her own. Last night she
carried Mouse out into the living room for a visit. Poor Grainne trailed
after her waiting to take her baby back. Mouse was no worse for the
experience. I think she may have enjoyed it, lol. Fen thinks all kittens
should be in the nest behind the sofa corner.
Rover is showing himself to be a precocious kitten. I think he will end up being the leader of this pack. Time will tell who is dominate. When the other kittens are laying about and nursing he is up exercising and challenging himself. When I visit he comes to the front of the box. Mouse is very interested in visits too. This week I've watched Rover test his limits each day. Walking to the edge of the box then backing up. There is a little bit of a hill to climb over to crawl out of the box. This morning he. decided it was time to crawl out of the box and explore. I think he's looking for more stimulation from his environment. Not too long after Rover was out all the kittens were active and I was recording their activity when Rover began attack play with biting. This is the first demonstration I've seen of this learning behavior in this litter.. evening weigh in...... | March 13th - one week birthday - Today the kittens all weighed in at the same weight. I even reset the scale a couple times to make sure it was correct, lol. They have more than doubled their weight in the first week, that's great. |

March 10th - four days old -Its looking like we have two girls Belle and Mouse, and two boys, Rover and Gene. Rover looks like the only seal point. They are all very comfortable when we hold them. No crying for Momma. Gene did talk to me a little bit, lol. Mouse is the only kitten who still has a cord. The others have shed theirs. |

| March 8th - day two - Momma and the kittens are doing well. Momma is very fussy with me if I mess with her kittens. We are limiting holding them only for weighing and an occasional photo. As long as they don't cry of fuss during, momma is happy. Given the big weigh gain the first day we are happy with today's smaller gain. As long as everyone gains its good. |

| March 7th - day one - All the kittens are nursing well this morning. Belle is chocolate and Rover looks Seal. I think maybe we have three chocos but I need to observe them a bit more. |

They have all gained weigh really nicely in their first day. They are
all good nursers.

| March 6th - Birth Day - We sat with Grainne all day today waiting for her to begin labor. The first kitten was born at 8:20 pm. This was right after we saw her eating her dinner. Kitten one came rear first. Kittens 2, 3, and 4 all head first. Kitten two came out smacking his lips and wanting to nurse right away. He latched on and never stopped nursing, lol. He had a nice round tummy by midnight. After the fourth kitten was born I thought I could feel another hard lump. With time I realized it was the lump of food from the meal she ate just before labor began. The digestive system shuts off when labor begins so the dry food was sitting there in a lump until she was done with her delivery. I felt for kittens again around 2 am and could no longer feel anything. |

Stats at birth #1 8:20 pm blue – Belle – 92.528 grams (3.25 ounces) #2 9:00 pm red – Rover – 99.645 grams (3.5 ounces) #3 10.20 pm green – Gene – 92.528 grams (3.25 ounces) #4 11:45 pm white – Mouse – 92.528 grams (3.25 ounces) I have not determined sex of the kittens. Their names and my calling them him, he, her or she is not a reflection of their true sex. It can be very difficult to determine sex at this age. The names we use are just color association labels for the diary. Owners will rename them when they go to their homes. |

| March 5, 2016 - Grainne is nesting and has started to display early signs of labor. I sat up with her all night and she made no progress into active labor. |
